Organic Farming

Teaching organic farming at SouthVale to young, primary school students opens them to understanding how things grow, live and die. It gives them perspective of their lives and the world around them. They learn to value food and how much labour goes in bringing the food to their tables. Organic farming brings chemistry, biology and physics into every day application. It helps students develop personally and socially by adding a practical dimension to the subject.

At SouthVale, a farmer from the village gives the Valers practical knowledge and they have successfully grown different vegetables in different seasons. Agriculture theory introduces the Valers to nutrients and nutritional value of different foods. Primary school Valers develop skills in leadership, communication, team building and civic engagement. They learn to work together and discover how much labour goes into producing food. SouthVale believes the field is the best classroom for children to learn many subjects integrated into one.
